Engaging young people in the fight against improper waste management and environmental protection

The reality of climate change is far from the minds of many people. Meanwhile, evidence reveals that current warming is occurring roughly ten times faster than the average rate of ice-age-recovery warming. Carbon dioxide from human activity is increasing more than 250 times faster than it did from natural sources after the last Ice Age.

In many countries like in our case, having a good waste management system is often not a reality. It is very dangerous because the effects of these goes far beyond what the eyes can see. Most of the rubbish gotten from housholds, market places, small firms, end up in dumpsites or in landfills. When organic waste decomposes, carbon dioxide and methane gas is created… Both carbon dioxide and methane are greenhouse gases, which contribute to global warming and climate change.

For about 2 years now, we have been working to remedy this situation. By carrying out cleanup campaigns, large sensitizations, ploggs, we are able to mobilize youths in various communities to engage into climate action.

We work with Local and municipal authorities, to redesign the waste management system if our localities to ensure a proper handling of these wastes.

The truth is, though Climate change happens naturally, anthropogenic causes are a great contribution to it. We  continue to make our voices heard, and carry out actions towards the goal; Carbon neutrality.
